Yesterday was the first day of two weeks of parent, pupil, teacher three way conferences. As well as pupils being involved in the interviews the provision of a half year written report is new. Parents will notice that the format of the written report is quite succinct and to the point. Wherever possible we have compared your child’s performance with the new National Standards. There are however some points about the written reports that parents need to be aware of. They are:
1. As yet the Ministry has not translated the reading level terminology used in the National Standards into reading ages. If the Ministry is not forthcoming we will put our own C.S.N.S. interpretation on this (in time for the end of year written report).
2. The National Standards are set for the end of the academic year. If your child is below the National Standard at mid year then you shouldn’t be too concerned as it is likely that he/she will reach the standard by the end of the year.
3. Refinements to the National Standards are still being made by the Ministry. At this stage it’s very much a work in progress. The teachers and the BOT will be very interested in any feedback that parents provide about the new reports and indeed the whole process in general. A survey of parents will be conducted after the interviews have been completed.
4. Whilst the C.S.N.S. standards do not appear in the written report your child’s performance will be compared against them at the interviews. (NB. Generally our C.S.N.S. standards are higher than the National Standards).
